Europe: Must Do List

Some friends and I are going to Europe this summer. ALL OVER Europe. Ireland, Scotland, England, France, Spain, Germany, Slovakia, Poland, and Norway. Just to name a few.

There are some obvious things I’ll have to do in Europe, like see major landmarks. Then there’s another list of crazy random stuff that must be accomplished and documented somehow.

So here’s the start of the list, which I will update sporadically.

  • Party in a pub in Ireland.
  • Hot coco in the French Alps.
  • Play hide-n-seek someplace neat.
  • Climb random things in each country.
  • Have English high tea on the Spanish Steps in Rome.
  • Lightpainting in London.
  • Hug/kiss strangers.

As of now, I have $21 in cash stored away for this trip.

Hey– it’s a start. ;)

Soul Tears

I want so bad to run and hide.

To sink so low that even the freshest rain cannot reach me.

Because that’s where I feel I already am.

It’s a strange thing to sit with.

Knowing I did what I did.

I often wonder if the other soul will ever be whole again.

I have hope for their heart.

Caring not about my own.

I have cried the soul tears.

And asked my forgiveness.

So now I wait for the world to keep spinning.

And for the rain to reach the earth.

To see that moment where it’s complete.

Where the eternally separated sky and earth meet.

So I wait.

While it keeps spinning.

So We Fade Anyway

I have a sinking feeling…

That everything I know is fading away.

My life is dissolving before my eyes.

Friends are picking a different path.

The world is changing so fast.

Nothing seems right anymore.

And so we all fade away…

Of course there is so much good in all of it…

Somehow this is good for all.

I will just fade away like the rest…

Since that’s what they want most.

I will be among the invisible.

The quiet whispers in the dark.

The light touches in the sun.

The painful tears that never fall.

[News02] Recycled Percussion

RECYCLED PERCUSSION PLAYS ELECTRIC SHOW

The Las Vegas showing band, Recycled Percussion, plays an intense concert at Taylor Auditorium of Western State College using simple household items.

Recycled Percussion lit up the stage of Taylor Auditorium on Thursday September 8. The show began at 7pm with an electric energy that lasted throughout the hour and a half long show.

The band used as their instruments buckets, drills, ladders, and even electric grinders. This unique band did more than just drum on household items though. The energy was held high by the amazing talents of each individual in the band; including beat boxing, body percussion, and incredible timing.

Audience members were kept on their toes as the specialist drummers asked the audience to mimic the drummer’s moves. Some audience members were even asked on to the stage to act out a few tricks that were hilarious and energizing.

Still another surprise for the audience was when the lights went out and a dazzling show of sparks fell in sync to the music.

The finale was by far the most intense piece, as the band played a compilation of the best rock songs since the sixties. The audience was on their feet and in the isles dancing along to the amazing band’s unique sounds.

Jane D, a student at Western State College said “It was a very loud concert. And very fun!” As students stayed after to show their support, the room was still full of energy. Another student, Sarah S, and avid drummer herself, said of the band “They are so awesome! And so good!”

It was obvious that the students in attendance were very please with the band’s performance. Their unique abilities combined with their high energy attitudes provided one amazing concert for Western State students.

Break The Expectations

It’s so interesting to me, the expectations that are placed upon people.

I am a senior in college now. I feel like I have the world on my shoulders sometimes. Sure, I’m not yet in the real world, the corporate muck of daily jobs, but I try my hardest for where I’m at. Yet… the expectations placed on me, in my own opinion of course, are either 1) Ridiculously difficult for even Superman or 2) Way too easy.

There is no middle ground it seems. You’re either a person who has EVERYTHING expected of them, or you’re a lazy bum expected to fail. I don’t understand why people who try get everything thrown at them. What happened to the responsible people who lived quiet diligent lives…?

No one wants to face the dirt and grime of the world. No one wants to truly clean up. We choose to ignore the things that are hard. We want the easy, not-a-care-in-the-world type of life. Heart issues are made into Disney teen TV shows and reality series. Instead of trying to figure out why teens seem to be selfish and angry like never before, we just market it as the new cool.

Break.

Break it. Break the low expectations, break the laziness, break the ignorance. Let’s step up.

We’re going to blow the world away.

We can be like stars in the universe (Philippians 2:14-15).

So shine. Shine bright.

Death of a Journalist

In today’s world many dreams die, and many simply fade away.

This week the dream of journalism, of sharing news to change the world, died a slow and miserable death. With a culture too obsessed with the shock factor and saving face, journalism is no match. The entire culture says no to news and yes to reality television. But reality is not real, and what is real is becoming stale and unwated.

It’s with bitter remorse, that today I burry the dream of journalism.

Instead I will just become a cheesy, shallow, and useless writer who only writes what the world wants. Nothing of substance. of course.

Wouldn’t that just be terrible?

[News01] Party in the Park

Hello again, cyber world.

I’m thinking about trying to better my chances of a free-lance journalism job. I think I’ll start small by making many of my next posts like that in a newspaper or magazine. Maybe if I get good enough, I’ll start a whole website for my photo-journalism obsession. ;) (Each post that’s “news” will be labeled so, hence the title of this post.) As a disclaimer, all photos used are taken by me, unless otherwise stated.

Here’ goes nothing…

Jack Lucido on drums for the Arts Center's concert.

Last Sunday evening at 6pm the Gunnison Arts Center held a concert, as the always do Sundays. This evening the band playing was Over The Line. Jack Lucido, a film professor for Western State College, lead on the drums. Al Canif, the head of the Art Department at Western played bass. The guitarist and pianist were not introduced, and here is an area that a true journalist would have investigated further. I was there simply for fun though, and fun it was.

The band played classic rock songs that fit the summer evening perfectly. As the night wore on there was dancing and a special treat as Lealyn Poponi, the hoopdance instructor for Gunnison and Crested Butte, practiced to the tunes of the band.

The evening was a spectacular event filled with family fun and good mood music.

10- I’ve Been Adventuring

Wow… long absenses are sort of my thing. Sometimes I wonder as I post these, who even looks at it. It’s just floating around in cyberspace, chillin’ and waiting. Hmm…

Anyway, I’ve been very very busy. The photo thing… well it mostly kept up. It’s really not as easy as it sounds when you’ve got a million other things to do as well. All complaining aside, here’s a recent photo of my own artwork. I will try and keep up the last 20 days of photos. Partically becasue it’s almost Spring and everything looks stunning!

I used collage material and an actual book. I’ll be artistically filling the pages with my many adventures. Oh yea.

Ps. New theme: Mystique. I like it a lot. I’m not even done playing with all the options yet. :)
